NiBS, while still quite young, has already established a stellar international reputation as a world-class university, with demonstrated excellence in a number of essential doctoral disciplines. Our faculty, with diverse backgrounds in Marketing, Finance, Innovation, Management, Leadership, Human Resource Management (HRM), Organizational Behavior, Economics, Entrepreneurship among others are recognized as outstanding scholars in their respective disciplines as well as accomplished mentors in terms of producing the next generation of scholars in business.

This unique and timely program is possible because we do not have the traditional mindset of playing ‘god’ with thesis supervision – a common ‘migraine’ and ‘nightmare’ for doctoral students. One key aspect of a PhD is developing a lifelong bond between supervisor and student. At NiBS, students work hand-in-hand with their supervisors to produce world-class research. A bond that we cherish and nurture at all times.

NiBS also offers candidates the tools and knowledge required to make vital contributions to the field. As a PhD student at NiBS, your research will advance knowledge in your chosen field. In fact, that is what a PhD is all about. Learning how to contribute knowledge to an existing body of research. In the PhD program at NiBS, we rigorously train and equip students with strong analytical and research skills in formal social inquiry, to address complex issues in-depth, and to disseminate knowledge in scholarly journals and other publication outlets to contribute to the theoretical and empirical knowledge and practice of the field.

To prepare candidates for research and teaching careers in higher education and for careers requiring advanced research and analytical capabilities in research departments in consulting, banking, government, etc.



  • Acquire knowledge and expertise required to identify, understand and successfully tackle a key research issue in a specialized area of study in business and management.
  • Exhibit rigorous analytical and research skills in formal social inquiry required to define and address a complex issue in-depth, and to disseminate knowledge in scholarly journals and other publication outlets to contribute to the theoretical and empirical literature as well as influence the theory and practice of management and public policy in Africa.
  • Demonstrate expertise in a specific topic area through the design, execution, and completion of a doctoral thesis that contributes to new theoretical and empirical knowledge and practice of the field.
  • Demonstrate the ability to disseminate new knowledge through publications in academic and practitioner journals and other outlets by achieving a successful internationally peer-reviewed journal publication before graduation.

  • We run a cohort model designed to promote collegiality, interdependence, networking, and camaraderie among participants to enhance personal, academic and professional growth.
  • We have a creative 3-step dissertation supervision model, led by experienced, local and international research-oriented faculty, designed to ensure successful on-time completion.
  • We have teaching seminars that develop your skills in discovery–rich performance learning pedagogy.
  • You attend academic publishing modules designed to develop your skills in writing academic publications; led by experienced scholars who have published in leading academic journals.
  • You are encouraged and supported to publish at least one paper in international peer-review journals approved by NiBS.
  • We have merit-based scholarships available for applicants, especially women.
  • We offer a flexible customized payment plan to suit each applicant.

Program Fees – GHANA – June 2020
The fee for the program has two components:

* Tuition and partner affiliation and service fee, on campus in-class and/or LIVE digital teaching, project/thesis readership, and project/thesis supervision.

* Program support & management fee – which includes course materials, articles, library access (including online), faculty amenities, research assistance, dedi-cated research fellow support, software licenses and program amenities (e.g., ca-tering) during on-campus classes.

    Master of Research (MRes)

    Students who successfully complete all coursework (18 credits in core courses, 15 credits of in research methodology) and pass the comprehensive examination but for some acceptable reasons (for which approval must be granted by the President) are not able to proceed to the thesis stage, will be awarded the degree of Master of Research in Business Administration degree (MRes).


    PhD in Business Administration

    Students who subsequently complete 12 credits of coursework in the area of specialization, and 6 credits of course work in Teaching and Publishing seminars, and successfully defend their thesis (24 credits) will be awarded the Ph.D. in Business Administration degree.
