Transforming the landscape of Ghana’s technical workforce, NiBS University and Metso Ghana Limited (MGL) have officially entered into a strategic partnership. The collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to harmonize academic instruction with the rigorous demands of the modern industrial landscape.

The agreement was signed by Prof. Kwaku Atuahene-Gima, Founder and President of NiBS University, and Dr. Enoch Kusi-Yeboah, Vice President of Metso Ghana Limited, on March 27, 2026.

A Vision for Implementation and Leadership

During the signing ceremony, Prof. Atuahene-Gima offered a candid perspective on the challenges of corporate and academic partnerships. He urged both sides to remain deeply committed to the practical execution of the agreement, noting that the value of the MoU lies in its delivery rather than just the document itself.

“Change is difficult, but if you have the vision… then you build yourself into it,” Prof. Atuahene-Gima remarked. “Although we have good ideas, there’s often poor implementation. However, we will have to make this work.”

Reinforcing this vision, Dr. Kusi-Yeboah emphasized that the partnership is designed to produce more than just technically proficient graduates; it aims to develop industry leaders who can innovate.

“When they are graduating, they are not graduating as students. They are graduating to come out, to lead, and to innovate, and not just the normal technicians that we have,” Dr. Kusi-Yeboah stated.

Drawing from his own journey as an engineer who pursued an MBA and a DBA, he highlighted the power of multidisciplinary education. “I could see the impact on society, on business, and I think that we can model that,” he added, suggesting that the NiBS University-MGL collaboration will foster a new breed of “engineer-leaders.”

A Roadmap to Professional Success

The MoU outlines a comprehensive roadmap designed to provide students with a clear pathway from the lecture hall to a full-time career. This journey begins with annual career fairs where students engage directly with MGL experts, followed by structured internship programs that provide immersion in real-world industrial environments. To ensure long-term growth, the partnership includes mentorship and specialized training on equipment and industry best practices, while collaborative curriculum support ensures that NiBS’s academic offerings remain perfectly aligned with evolving labor market trends.

Commitment to Local Talent

In line with MGL’s commitment to local talent development, the collaboration includes support for practical training, scholarships, and the integration of graduate trainees. To ensure the vision mentioned by the leadership is realized, both parties will regularly monitor and review activities, exchanging reports to improve continuous cooperation.

This collaboration marks a pivotal step in ensuring that Ghana’s mining and construction sectors are powered by a workforce that is not only highly educated but also “industry-ready” and prepared to lead the nation’s industrial future.
