The Nobel International Business University has introduced Africa’s first master’s program in fintech, a groundbreaking initiative designed to address the growing demand for digital finance expertise in Ghana. The one-year program, developed in collaboration with the Ghana Fintech and Payments Association, costs GHC 45,000 and aims to equip professionals with cutting-edge skills to drive innovation in the financial technology sector.
This initiative was announced at the Future of Work 2.0 press launch, where Martin Kwame Awagah, President of the Ghana Fintech and Payments Association, stressed the importance of integrating technology into university curricula. He highlighted Ghana’s strong position in digital financial services, ranking 5th among 54 African countries. According to him, Ghana has the potential to become a leading fintech hub if academia and industry work closely together.
To sustain this progress, Martin called for the establishment of a technology committee within the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission to ensure university courses remain relevant to industry needs. He emphasized that fintech education is critical to preparing the next generation of professionals for the evolving job market.
Echoing this sentiment, Ama Sackey, Head of Marketing at ALX Ghana, underscored the urgency of equipping young Africans with future-ready skills in AI, data science, and cloud computing. She referenced a study identifying data analytics, software engineering, and cloud computing as key career fields for the next decade. With Africa projected to have the largest youth population by 2050, she stressed that investing in digital education is essential to harnessing this demographic advantage.
Ama also highlighted how ALX Ghana has successfully enabled young professionals to secure international jobs while staying in Ghana, demonstrating the transformative power of tech-driven education.
The upcoming Future of Work 2.0 event, set for March 21-22, 2025, will serve as a platform for industry leaders, academics, and young professionals to collaborate on shaping the future of education and employment in Ghana’s digital economy.
