Extraordinary socio-political and economic developments are spawning new rules, incentives and opportunities for development in Africa. Yet, the adoption of the traditional model of business education in Africa means that we are unable to tackle an important contradiction in the African condition – abundant resources and opportunities and yet high levels of unemployment and poverty of many university graduates. More than ever, Africa needs executives with advanced cognitive leadership skills to discover the limitations of current management practices, develop deep insights into what works and what does not work, and to conduct rigorous discovery for new knowledge and next practices suitable for the African context.
The new dynamics of Africa require business graduates and leaders who regard understanding and appreciation of the African context as the foundation of unbiased analysis, nuanced evaluation of organizational practices, and creative originality. In short, we need business leaders who remain committed to the rewards of free inquiry and experimentation.
Our research-focused educational model requires students and participants to focus on compelling organizational challenges and seek answers to insightful questions. We encourage them to create new knowledge, practices, and new business ventures by looking at the bigger picture, testing ideas in the field to discover new insights, probing the importance of the new discovery and analyzing the impact of implementation. In the end, our students and participants develop habits of the mind – at once flexible and insightful, informed by experience, yet oriented towards innovation.

NiBS is a new, private boutique business school in Ghana.
It was founded in July 2014 by Professor Kwaku Atuahene-Gima. After over 25 years of experience in industry and academia with institutions like the Queensland University of Technology and University of Wollongong in Australia, City University of Hong Kong, Aston Business School in the UK and the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), Shanghai and in Accra as the Founding Executive Director of CEIBS Africa campus, he concluded that the traditional model of education was unsuited to the working professional in Africa.
Professor Kwaku Atuahene-Gima envisioned a new kind of educational model designed to meet the needs of executives, employees, and employers in Africa.
One that was executive-friendly, designed to take account of the peculiar needs, problems, and opportunities in business education in the African context; one that offered opportunities for executives and professionals to develop new theoretical and practical models for understanding, evaluating, and affecting the efficient and fair practice of business and management in Africa.

Our Solution: Graduate-On-Time (GOT) Model
Executive-friendly program design and delivery
With the busy executive in mind each course is delivered in block format, face – to – face on campus, and where necessary on LIVE digital platform:
- For a doctorate program over a few days every two – three months
- For a master program a few hours a day over several days in a month.
In both cases, the program schedule is given to you far in advance to allow you to plan your busy schedule.
Thesis Support System
Timely Completion
You start your thesis from day one. We help you in your first class to develop your topic. We have found that this approach ensures timely completion. Our students applaud this innovation in our model.
Combination of coursework and thesis
We combine course work with thesis writing by ensuring that most of your assignments are related to your thesis project. This ensures speedy and timely completion by avoiding the problems associated with the traditional method of thesis completion.
Thesis writing workshops
In traditional schools, thesis writing is unstructured, ad hoc and lonely. We organize thesis writing workshops, each lasting two to three days at a time, to provide opportunities for Professors and Research Fellows to support the writing of your thesis in a formal school setting.
Research Seminars
You present different sections of your thesis at several compulsory research seminars where professors and colleagues help refine your ideas and support your efforts.
Genuine, accredited degrees.
In an era of rampant availability of fake degrees you cannot take any risks with your education. The degree programs we offer under mentorship of our partners are all genuine and accredited by the appropriate bodies.
High graduation rate
So far we have achieved a graduation success rate of about 85% per cohort. We are working hard to improve this rate. In the past two years 2018 and 2019, we have graduated 77 senior executives from Ghana, Nigeria and other African countries.
Scholarships
We offer fee-reduction scholarships of significant value to students who meet certain conditions. We also offer flexible fee payment terms.
